Piano Recital Series Set for Summer Keyboard Institute June 1-7

The Baylor University School of Music will present its annual Summer Keyboard Institute at 7:30 p.m. June 1-7 in Roxy Grove Hall.
A recital featuring four members of the Baylor music faculty will be performed on Sunday, June 1. Flutist Helen Ann Shanley and pianist Jane Abbott-Kirk will play Otar Taktakishvili's "Sonata for Flute and Piano." Pianist Michael Ard will present "Pagodes" and "Jardins sous la pluie" from Claude Debussy's "Estampes," as well as "Nocturne No. 2" and "Chase" from the "Pastoral Suite" by Richard Faith. This opening recital will conclude with Krassimira Jordan's performance of Franz Liszt's "Piano Sonata in B Minor."
On Monday, June 2, four Baylor faculty and a guest duo-piano team will present a recital. Pianist Brian Marks will open the program with the "Allegro appassionata" movement from Cécile Chaminade's "Piano Sonata in C Minor." Then bass Daniel Scott will be accompanied by pianist John Cozza in two songs by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, "None but the Lonely Heart" and "Don Juan's Serenade," along with the "Cavatina" from Sergei Rachmaninoff's opera "Aleko." Pianist Krassimira Jordan will perform three pieces from her native Bulgaria. She will play "Autumn Elegy" and "Rhythmic Movement" by Pantcho Vladigerov and then "Variations on the Bulgarian folksong 'Dilmano, Dilbero' " by Alexander Vladigerov. The evening will conclude with guest artists Mary Rich and Marilyn Rodman performing Francis Poulenc's "Concerto in D Minor for Two Pianos."
Tuesday, June 3, will feature a recital by seven graduate and undergraduate students in Baylor University's Keyboard Division. Organist Joel Bacon will be joined by pianists Jonathan Gary, Paula Thomas, Paolo Susanni, Russell Reed, Robert Bobo and Mary Bashara.
On Thursday, June 5, another group of seven Baylor piano students will perform. The group includes Kimberly Holdridge, Eric Lei, Mina Cha, Sunny Tanudjaja, Darren Lacy, Amy Meppen and Allen Hightower.
The week-long series of recitals will come to a close with two events in Roxy Grove Hall featuring many of the Institute's high-school-age students. The performance on Friday, June 6, will take place at 7:30 p.m. and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7.
A total of 47 high school piano students from Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska will attend this year's Summer Keyboard Institute.
