WACO, Texas (Nov. 4, 2016) – This week, Baylor University will host several notable speakers, lectures, concerts and events, including a performance by the Concert Jazz Ensemble, lectures by renowned mathematician Tom Banchoff, Ph.D., and a presentation by Steve Green, president of Hobby Lobby.

MONDAY, Nov. 7
Chapel Highlights – Moffat Zimba will speak in Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. For more information and a list of future Chapel speakers, visit the Chapel website.

Movie Mondays at the Hippodrome – In partnership with the Waco Hippodrome, Baylor Student Activities will show “Project 22” at 7 p.m. at the Hippodrome, 724 Austin Ave. Tickets are free and can be picked up at the Bill Daniel Student Center Ticket Office or online. TUESDAY, Nov. 8
Environmental Science Lecture – Mike Criscitiello, Ph.D., associate professor and associate department head for research and graduate studies in the department of veterinary pathology at Texas A&M University, will deliver a lecture entitled “Environmental Immunology: Shark Lymphocyte Antigen Receptors” at 5 p.m. in Room A108 of the Baylor Sciences Building, 101 Bagby Ave.

Academy for Leadership Development Lecture Series – Kenton Lee will lecture at 6 p.m. in Barfield Drawing Room of Bill Daniel Student Center, 1311 S. Fifth St. Lee is the founder of the Shoe That Grows, a project by nonprofit organization Because International that provides specially designed shoes to children living in poverty.

Concert Jazz Ensemble – The Concert Jazz Ensemble, led by Alex Parker, continuing lecturer in jazz studies and director of the jazz program, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. This event is free and open to the public. An Experiment with an Air Pump – Baylor Theater will present “An Experiment with an Air Pump” at 7:30 p.m. from Nov. 8-12 and 2 p.m. Nov. 12-13 in Jones Theater in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. “An Experiment with an Air Pump” is a play by Shelagh Stephenson that debuted in England in 1998 and explores the relationship between science, ethics and history. WEDNESDAY, Nov. 9

Baylor Lecture Series in Mathematics – Tom Banchoff, Ph.D., will give a lecture entitled “The Fourth Dimension and the People You Meet There” at 4 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium, Room 130 of Draper Academic Building, 1420 S. Seventh St. Banchoff is a world-renowned mathematician specializing in geometry who has taught at Brown University, Harvard University and the University of Amsterdam.

THURSDAY, Nov. 10
Drumwright Lecture – Robert George, Ph.D., will lecture on “Reasons for our Hope: The Role of Faith in Politics, Culture, and Education” in conversation with John Haldane, Ph.D., J. Newton Rayzor, Sr. Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, at 4 p.m. in Alexander Reading Room. George is the McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University. George is also the founder and director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton, a program dedicated to exploring questions of American constitutional law and Western political thought.

Baylor Lecture Series in Mathematics – Tom Banchoff, Ph.D., will lecture on “Folds, Intersections and Inflections: Seven Ways to Distinguish a Cylinder from a Mobius Band” at 4 p.m. in Room 301 of Marrs McLean Science Building, 1214 S. Fourth St. Banchoff is a world-renowned mathematician specializing in geometry who has taught at Brown University, Harvard University and the University of Amsterdam.

Interfaith Student Panel Discussion – The Mayborn Museum will host a panel discussion on sacred journeys of student members of the interfaith group Better Together BU at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public but does not include admission to the museum.

VirtuOSO – A Capella group VirtuOSO will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Jubilee Theatre, 1319 N. 15th St. Pre-concert tickets are not required, but there will be an admission charge payable at the door. For more information and a full schedule of concerts, visit the School of Music website.

“Business and the Book” – Steve Green, president of Hobby Lobby, will lecture at 7:30 p.m. in Room 250 of the Paul L. Foster Campus for Business and Innovation, 1621 S. Third St. This lecture is part of the Dale P. Jones Business Ethics Forum, hosted by the Hankamer School of Business. FRIDAY, Nov. 11
Biology Lecture – Thomas Hawke, Ph.D., associate professor of pathology and molecular medicine at McMaster University, will lecture at 2:30 p.m. in Room C-206 in the Baylor Sciences Building, 101 Bagby Ave. Hawke’s research focuses on the role and regulation of muscle satellite cells, the stem cell population of skeletal medicine and in health and disease states.

CASPER Seminar Series – Peter Hartmann, Ph.D., will lecture on “Particle-in-Cell Simulations in Low Temperature Plasma Physics” for the Center for Astrophysics, Space Physics & Engineering Research (CASPER) Seminar Series at 2:30 p.m. in Room 3160 of the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC). here for more information and a schedule of events in the CASPER Seminar Series. -->
