Ray Wilson Named Outstanding Professor at Baylor

Dr. F. Ray Wilson II, professor of biology at Baylor University and the Collins Outstanding Professor for 1997, will deliver a special lecture titled "Friendship" at 3 p.m. Monday, May 12, in Room 126 in the Sid Richardson Science Building.
"We, as teachers, do a lot in the classroom," Wilson said. "Students will forget your notes and lectures, but the friendships you establish with them last."
In addition to delivering the lecture, Wilson will be awarded $10,000 and be recognized at morning commencement exercises.
Wilson has taught at Baylor since 1973. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Texas Wesleyan University, master's of science from Texas Christian University and his doctorate from the University of Illinois.
"Life gives you very few magical moments, but this is one of them," Wilson said on being named the Collins Outstanding Professor.
The Carr P. Collins Foundation provides funds for the Collins Outstanding Professor program, which was initiated in 1994 to honor outstanding professors at the university. A professor is elected annually by the senior class.
All full-time faculty members who have taught at least four years as full-time faculty members at Baylor prior to the fall term and have taught during the fall, winter or spring terms of the year of their election are eligible to receive the award.
