WACO, Texas (April 22, 2016) – This year’s Black Glasses Film Festival will kick off at 7 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Waco Hippodrome Theatre downtown.
“Now in its 17th year, the Black Glasses Film Festival is Waco’s hot ticket for checking out the best of Baylor student filmmaking, often premiering student films that go on to receive remarkable worldwide attention,” said Maverick Moore, lecturer in the film and digital media department and coordinator of the Black Glasses Film Festival.
Started by Baylor film students in 1999, the Black Glasses Film Festival has evolved into an annual event hosted by Baylor Film & Digital Media in Baylor’s College of Arts & Sciences to provide students the opportunity to showcase their films to a wide audience.
The name of the festival comes from the black-rimmed glasses worn by a former professor in the department. The films selected for the festival represent the best of the department and are chosen by film and digital media faculty. Faculty members also nominate their top choices to decide on festival winners, separated by film genre.
“This year, we received an overwhelming and record-breaking amount of film submissions, so it is going to be a truly awesome display of Baylor talent,” Moore said. “With the wide variety in our film lineup, there will be something for everyone – wildly entertaining films about haunted houses, love potions, roommate pranks, murder mysteries, kidnap breakout buffoonery, desperate bachelorettes, arguing narrators and even a pair of bumbling paranoid rednecks.”
The following are the official film selections for this year’s festival:

• Between the Light and Dark, Trey Dickerson
• The Bridegroom, Christina Gray
