President Names Provost Search Committee Members

WACO, Texas (March 23, 2016) – Baylor University President and Chancellor Ken Starr has announced the members of the University’s Provost Search Committee. The Committee is charged with leading the search to identify the University’s next Executive Vice President and Provost.

Committee Chair Terry Maness, D.B.A., dean of the Hankamer School of Business who also is representing the Council of Deans, will be assisted on the Committee by:
• Lori E. Baker, Ph.D., associate professor of anthropology, department of anthropology, College of Arts and Sciences, representing faculty
• Elizabeth Corey, Ph.D., associate professor of political science in the Honors Program, Honors College, and department of political science, College of Arts and Sciences, representing faculty
• Jeremy Counseller, J.D., professor of law, Baylor Law School, representing faculty
• Marjorie Ellis, executive director of the Office of Career and Professional Development, representing staff
• Cheryl Gochis, associate vice president for human resources, representing Human Resources
• Heidi J. Hornik, Ph.D., professor of art history, department of art, College of Arts and Sciences, representing faculty
• Kevin P. Jackson, Ph.D., vice president for student life, representing the Executive Council and Division of Student Life
• Thomas S. Kidd, Ph.D., professor of history, department of history, College of Arts and Sciences, representing faculty and serving as committee vice chair
• Scott Moore, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy, Great Texts Program, Honors College, representing faculty
• Dennis L. O’Neal, Ph.D., dean of School of Engineering and Computer Science, representing the Council of Deans
• James Stamey, Ph.D., professor and graduate program director, department of statistical science, College of Arts and Sciences, representing faculty
• David H. Harper, J.D., partner, Haynes & Boone LLP, Ex-Officio, representing the Baylor Board of Regents

Rebecca Malzahn, deputy chief of staff in the Office of the President, will assist the Committee as search manager.

The Committee will assess potential candidates based on their academic credentials, demonstrated leadership and commitment to Baylor’s unwavering Christian mission under Pro Futuris, the University’s strategic plan. They were given their charge on March 3.

As the Committee conducts the search, Todd Still, Ph.D., The Charles J. and Eleanor McLerran Delancey Chair of the Dean of Truett Seminary and professor of Christian Scriptures, is serving as interim provost.
