Pulitzer Prize Recipient Ken Herman Invited to Baylor for “Pulitzer at 100”

WACO, Texas (March 18, 2016) – In recognition of the centennial celebration of The Pulitzer Prize, the Baylor department of journalism, public relations and new media will host a lecture by Pulitzer Prize recipient Ken Herman at 6 p.m. Monday, March 21, in Marrs McLean Science Building, Room 100.
Herman won the Pulitzer for Public Service in 1977 while working at the Lufkin News. According to the Pulitzer Prize website, the award was given "for an obituary of a local man who died in Marine training camp, which grew into an investigation of that death and a fundamental reform in the recruiting and training practices of the United States Marine Corps."
"The Pulitzer Prizes represent the very best in American journalism," said Sara Stone, department chair. "We are proud to honor the 100th anniversary of these prestigious awards with both Ken Herman's presentation Monday night and an exhibit at Moody Library of award-winning photographs."
Herman will share his experience of covering the story that led to the award and discuss the state of journalism today.
The Pulitzer Prize was established in 1904 through the will of Joseph Pulitzer to recognize outstanding achievement in journalism, musical composition and literature. This event is one of many events hosted by institutions across the United States celebrating the award's centennial legacy.
Herman is the metro columnist and a reporter for the "Austin American-Statesman."
This event is free and open to the public. Marrs McLean Science is located at 1214 S. Fourth St.
