Baylor's 'day of the Bear' Set for April 17

"Lone Star Diadeloso" will be the theme for Baylor University's annual Diadeloso celebration Thursday, April 17.
Diadeloso, Spanish for "Day of the Bear," is a campus recreation day for students and faculty, with no classes scheduled.

The celebration will begin with a block party from 8 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, April 16, at Austin Avenue and Sixth Street downtown, where live entertainment will be provided. Admission is $4 in advance and $5 at the gate. Free trolley rides from the Steve Hudson Memorial Bear Plaza also will be available from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.

At 8 a.m. Thursday, a 5-k fun run will kick off the "Day of the Bear".

The tournaments scheduled include volleyball, 3-on-3 basketball, taboo, tennis, tug of war, golf, ultimate frisbee, racquetball and pool. Most activities will be held at Baylor's intramural fields, located at Bagby Avenue and University Parks Drive.

Tickets and T-shirts may be purchased in campus cafeterias, the Bill Daniel Student Center, and at the Vara Martin Daniel Fountain Plaza. The shirts are $12.

Spring elections for the Baylor student body and class officers, Student Congress representatives and yell leaders also will be held at this time.
