Mayborn Museum Offers Spring Break Activities

WACO, Texas (March 4, 2016) – What are your plans for spring break?
If you're staying in Waco for the break, consider spending some time at the Mayborn Museum Complex. The museum will offer events from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every weekday during spring break, March 7 to March 11. If you are leaving town, don’t worry: the same events will be repeated the next week from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. from March 14 to March 18.
The events, which will take place in the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village, will give attendees a glimpse into what life was like in the late 1800s.
"Activities that we offer in the Gov. Bill & Vara Daniel Historic Village are always popular," said Rebecca Nall, assistant director of communication at the museum. "I think it's because we provide a unique experience. Through hands-on activities and demonstrations, visitors are immersed in everyday life from more than 100 years ago."
Activities include planting a garden, making candles, enjoying classic games like horseshoes and egg races and preparing staples like butter, coffee and corn meal.
"Our spring break events are mostly geared towards families, but I think Baylor students will have a great time as well," Nall said. "Planting seeds, learning to make candles and playing classic games like horseshoes are fun at any age."
In addition, Disney/Pixar's "Toy Story" will play in the museum theater each weekday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and Mr. Potato Head will make appearances at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
"We see increased attendance during spring break," Nall said. "People are looking for things to do. We want to provide a great experience for those choosing to spend their leisure time at the museum and encourage others to do the same. We hope our visitors learn something while they're having fun."
All the daily themed activities are included with regular admission price. Baylor students can get in free with their student IDs. The regular admission price is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for children 18 months to 12 years old.
Some activities are subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather.

Chore Day in the Village

It’s a Grind!

Discover what it took to make corn meal, coffee and herbs into usable staples in the late 1800s, then ride through the village in a horse-drawn carriage.

Spring Planting in the Village Garden
1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016
Plant seeds in the village garden, including flowers, vegetables and more, then say hello to the farm animals.

Candle Making
1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016
Learn to make candles in the village, then ride in a horse-drawn carriage.

Game On!
1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016
Play horseshoes and ring toss, compete in egg races and experience other classic games and toys from the 1800s.
