Handbells to Present Spring Concert April 15

The Baylor Handbell Choir and Baylor Handbell Ensemble will present their annual spring concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in Meadows Recital Hall. The concert will be under the direction of Debra L. Jackson, lecturer in handbells.
The program will open with a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's "Fugue à la Gigue," as transcribed for handbells by Douglas Wagner. Then will come Martha Lynn Thompson's arrangement of the stirring "Great Gate of Kiev," which serves as the finale to Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition."
The first half of the concert also will feature the Akira Anraku arrangement of Rentaro Taki's "Moon Over Ruined Castle" and Pat Thomson's "Run Away to Spring." William Payn's "Antiphonal Flourish" will be played by the combined ringers of the Baylor Handbell Ensemble and the Baylor Handbell Choir.
Following intermission, the program will resume with "Festival Sanctus" by Cathy Moklebust, Tim Waugh's arrangement of the traditional English melody "Forest Green," Paul A. McKlveen's "Spiritoso," and the William R. Wood arrangement of Walter and Carol Noona's "All American Hometown Band."
For the final piece--Douglas Wagner's arrangement of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by George Weiss, Luigi Creatore, and June Peretti--the handbells will be joined by percussionists Greg Apple and Jason Rutledge.
