Asian Cultural Leadership Conference Set for April 12

The Vietnamese Student Association at Baylor University will host its annual cultural leadership conference at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center. This year's conference is titled "Culture, Conflict, and the Changing Asian Face."
The conference will be structured around a distinguished panel of three guest speakers and a keynote speaker. The keynote speaker will be professor Makiyo Hori of the academically acclaimed Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. Hori will draw upon his extensive background in political science and economics as well as cultural experiences to speak on the current status of Asians and Asian-Americans.
Immediately following the conference, guests will take part in a series of interactive workshops held in the third floor rooms of the Student Center followed by a luncheon at 1:30 p.m.
Other speakers include Kay Mueller, lecturer in sociology and director of the Baylor in Thailand cultural exchange program. Mueller will relate her perceptions and observations of the Asian culture in a session at noon. Dr. David Mungello, associate professor of history and director of the Asian Studies Program, will address current Asian affairs and issues that are of worldwide concern in his 11 a.m. and noon sessions.
Also conducting interactive sessions at the same times will be Hai N. Nguyen, lawyer and prominent member of the Vietnamese community in Houston.
The cost of the conference is $12 which includes the luncheon. The deadline for reservations for the luncheon is Tuesday, April 8.
