***SOLD OUT*** - Student Activities, Sony Pictures to Provide Free Advance Screening of Baylor Alum’s Epic Film “Risen”

WACO, Texas (Jan. 25, 2016) – Baylor University’s department of student activities, in conjunction with Sony Pictures, will host an advanced screening of the film Risen, directed by well-known Hollywood director, screenwriter and Baylor alumnus Kevin Reynolds, B.A. (Law) ’74, J.D. ’76, at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at the Waco Hippodrome, 724 Austin Ave. in downtown Waco.
Risen follows the epic Biblical story of the Resurrection, as told through the eyes of a non-believer. Clavius, a powerful Roman Military Tribune, and his aide, Lucius, are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus in the weeks following the crucifixion, in order to disprove the rumors of a risen Messiah and prevent an uprising in Jerusalem. The screening is free but requires advance ticket reservation and is open to Baylor students, faculty and staff. To reserve a seat, go to the Baylor Ticket Office website.
Reynolds, the son of former Baylor President Herbert Reynolds, is known for films, such as Fandango, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Red Dawn, Tristan + Isolde and The Count of Monte Cristo. In 2012, Reynolds directed Kevin Coster in the History Channel’s record-breaking three-part miniseries, Hatfields & McCoys, the premiere of which drew 13.9 million viewers on Memorial Day 2012, making it the most-watched scripted entertainment program (i.e., non-sports and non-news) in cable TV history. That record lasted just 48 hours, as the finale attracted an even larger audience of 14.3 million viewers.
