Renowned Author on Britain to Speak at Baylor April 7-8

Dr. David N. Cannadine, The Moore Collegiate Professor of History at Columbia University, will speak about the "Decline of Britain?" Monday and Tuesday, April 7-8, during the 19th annual Charles Edmondson Historical Lectures Series at Baylor University.
The author of five books on Britain including The Pleasures of the Past and The Decline and Fall of the British Aristocracy, Cannadine will speak at 7:30 p.m. Monday about "The Politics of Apocalypse" and again at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on "The Challenge of the National Past."
Both lectures, which are free and open to the public, will be held in Miller Chapel in the Tidwell Bible Building on the Baylor campus.
Cannadine was educated at King Edward's Five Ways School, Birmingham; Clare College, Cambridge University; St. John's College, Oxford University; and Princeton University. He received his master's degree from Cambridge and his doctorate from Oxford.
He is the winner of the T.S. Ashton Prize in Economic History, Agricultural History Silver Jubilee Prize, Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship, the Lionel Trilling Prize, the Governors' Award, Litt.D. (Cambridge), and Dean's Distinguished Award in the Humanities.
Among Cannadine's current research projects are The Rise and Fall of Class in Britain, The Penguin History of Britain (volume on the nineteenth century), Daylight on the Magic: The British Monarchy from Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II and Andrew W. Mellon: The Official Biography.
