Lecture on War in Bosnia Scheduled for April 7

Dr. Paul Mojzes, professor of religious studies at Rosemont College in Rosemont, Pa., will lecture on "Religion and the War in Bosnia" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the Jesse H. Jones Theater at Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Baylor University campus. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is part of the Laura Blanche Jackson Endowed Memorial Lectureship in World Issues.
Mojzes is a native of Yugoslavia who came to the United States in 1957. Upon graduation from the gymnasium in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, he studied at the Belgrade University Law School from 1955-1957. He graduated summa cum laude from Florida Southern College in 1959 and in 1965 received a doctorate in church history with an emphasis on Eastern Europe from Boston University. In 1968-1969, he spent a year in Asia on a post-doctoral fellowship studying Asian religions.
Mojzes has taught at the University of New Hampshire, Lasalle Jr. College, Lycoming College, Florida Southern College and Villanova University. From 1969-1979, he served as professor and dean at the Graz Center in Graz, Austria.
Editor of Religion in Eastern Europe and co-editor of the Journal of Ecumenical Studies, Mojzes is the author of five books and numerous articles. His books include Religious Liberty in Eastern Europe and the USSR: Before and After the Great Transformation and Yugoslavian Inferno: Ethnoreligious Warfare in the Balkans. He currently is working on a book on the role of religion in the war in Bosnia.
The Laura Blanche Jackson Lectureship in World Issues was created in 1994 as a memorial to Laura Blanche Jackson who graduated from Baylor in 1985 with a degree in political science and became the director of marketing for the World Affairs Council of San Antonio. After Jackson's death from cancer in 1992, her family created the lectureship to examine various world issues as a way to honor her passion for world affairs.
