WACO, Texas (Nov. 5, 2015) – Steppin’ Out, Baylor University’s time-honored service tradition, will take place Saturday, Nov. 7, with nearly 1,500 students volunteering at more than 50 sites all over the city of Waco.
Steppin’ Out provides an opportunity for Baylor students to get involved and serve the Waco community. This marks Baylor’s 30th year of the tradition.
“We are excited for Steppin’ Out and eager to see all of our hard work come to fruition and for Baylor to make a positive impact in the Waco community,” said Sara Long, student director of the Steppin’ Out steering committee. “We have quite a few painting sites that we are excited to offer students. We also have a Habitat for Humanity site, which is a new partnership for us, and if all goes well, we hope to continue next semester.”
An on-campus kickoff celebration will begin at 9 a.m. on Fountain Mall and will include free breakfast provided by ARAMARK, live music, remarks from Baylor President and Chancellor Ken Starr and a special presentation from Keep Waco Beautiful.
Tool checkout will begin at 10 a.m., and teams will serve at their project sites throughout the city from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Steppin’ Out is a valuable partnership with our hometown of Waco,” said Erin Payseur, associate director of community-based learning in Community Engagement and Service at Baylor. “It serves as a wonderful opportunity for our students to walk alongside our community and be good neighbors.”
