February 24, 1997

Dr. Jacob Howland, chair of the University of Tulsa Department of Philosophy, will speak at Baylor University Feb. 27-28 on "The Third Wave in Plato's Republic."
Howland will lecture to a philosophy class from 2-5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, and will speak at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, in Room 301 of the Tidwell Bible Building. The public may attend the Friday presentation.
Howland's visit represents a great opportunity to hear a leading expert on Plato, according to Dr. Ann-Marie Bowery, assistant professor of philosophy at Baylor.
"Howland is one of the great scholars in the dramatic interpretation of Plato," she said.
Howland joined the Tulsa faculty in 1988. He earned the Tulsa University College of Arts and Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award in 1993. Howland also was a nominee for the University Outstanding Teacher Award in 1993 and 1996.
