Piano Professor to Present Faculty Recital Feb. 27

Dr. Brian Marks, lecturer in piano at Baylor University, will present a faculty recital at
8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in Roxy Grove Hall. He will perform on both an 18th-century fortepiano replica and on a modern concert grand piano.
The first half of the program will consist of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Sonata in D Major, K. 576, Dane Rudhyar's "Stars" from Pentagram No. 3, and Cécile Chaminade's Piano Sonata in C Minor, Op. 21.
Following intermission, Marks will perform Robert Schumann's remarkable eight-movement suite for piano Kreisleriana, Op. 16. This work, dating from 1838, derives its name from the fictitious "Kapellmeister Johannes Kreisler," pseudonym of E. T. A. Hoffmann. The eccentric Herr Kreisler first appeared in Hoffmann's writings as early as 1814.
Marks has been a member of the Baylor piano faculty since 1991. He holds a bachelor of music degree from the University of Denver and master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
