700 Educators to Attend Reading Conference Feb. 21

WACO, Texas -- More than 700 teachers representing 12 school districts in Central Texas are expected to attend the 1997 Texas Association for the Improvement of Reading (TAIR) Conference at 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in Waco Hall on the Baylor University campus.
The theme for this year's conference is "Reading Success for All." The nationally recognized group, "Poetry Alive!" which energizes students and helps teachers make poetry "come alive" in the class room, will perform at 9 a.m. in Waco Hall.
Following the general session, "Poetry Alive!" will present a small group session from 10:25-11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall for conference participants.
In conjunction with the TAIR Conference, Baylor's Center for Christian Education will hold a Private Schools Inservice that will allow TAIR conference participants to attend additional small group sessions covering topics such as reading, educational software, distance education and even a children's dinner theater. Participants may choose the sessions they wish to attend upon arrival at the conference. The small group sessions will be held from 10:25-11:15 a.m. and from 1-1:50 p.m.
Dr. Mary Lou Maples, teacher educator from Athens State College in Alabama, will speak about "Listening: The Lost Language Art" during the afternoon general session from 2-3 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium in the Draper Academic Building.
Cost of the TAIR conference is $35. An additional cost of $15 is needed to register for the Private Schools Inservice.
