Baylor Bookstore Partners with Read Across America to Host Dr. Seuss Day Celebration

WACO, Texas (March 5, 2015) – In partnership with the National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America project, the Baylor Bookstore will host an in-store celebration of Dr. Seuss Day on Friday, March 6. Read Across America’s Dr. Seuss Day is an annual event held to encourage reading with younger children by celebrating the birthday of famous children’s book author and illustrator Theodor Seuss Geisel.
Baylor Bookstore will kick off Friday’s festivities with entertainment from local puppeteer and storyteller Sandy Shrout. She will be followed by Waco Libraries storyteller Vivian Rutherford. Students from surrounding elementary schools will visit the bookstore for a special reading of Dr. Seuss’s "Oh, The Places You’ll Go" by by Baylor’s First Lady Alice Starr and Dr. Seuss’s "The Cat in the Hat" by local KWTX Chief Weather Anchor Rusty Garrett. Shrout also will perform after Alice Starr’s reading. Baylor’s mascot, Bruiser the Bear, will entertain during the morning and afternoon sessions. The bookstore also will serve refreshments after the readings.
