WACO, Texas (Feb. 12, 2015) – Baylor University’s Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir will present its annual Gospel Fest at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, in Waco Hall.
Gospel choirs from across Texas will perform, in addition to Heavenly Voices.
“I love seeing college students worshiping God through performance,” said Kelley Kimple, associate director of multicultural affairs at Baylor. “Gospel music has the power to get your soul soaring with good praise and worship. You’re watching ministry take place with your own eyes.”
Serving as a clinician will be gospel musician Anita Wilson, who has been nominated for Grammy, Stellar and Dove Awards. Wilson will work with choirs to improve their technique and later will perform alongside them. She also will sing solos from her successful gospel albums.
“Every year we have a different recording artist come to work with our choirs,” said Ronald English, faculty adviser for the Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir. “It’s a joy to see these different artists work with our students and watch our students respond to them.”
Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir was established at Baylor in 1988. Members travel throughout the state performing and doing community service, hoping to minister through music. According to English, students choose to participate in the choir for many reasons.
“For many it has to do with the importance of their relationship with God, and this provides them with another outlet to express worship or praise,” said English. “But some just join because they enjoy singing.”
Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for general admission and can be purchased from the Bill Daniel Student Center Ticket Office. General admission tickets are $15 at the door.
Co-presenting the event are the Department of Multicultural Affairs and the Campus Diversity Committee.
Waco Hall is at 624 Speight Ave., and the BDSC Ticket Office is at 1311 S. Fifth St.
