Baylor Theatre Arts Presents a Revealing Comedy

WACO, Texas (Feb. 9, 2015) – I see London, I see France. Baylor presents “The Underpants.”
Baylor Theatre Arts presents comedian Steve Martin’s “The Underpants,” an adaptation of a 1911 German farce playing off one housewife’s royally public wardrobe malfunction. “The Underpants” will show at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10-14 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 14 and 15 at the Mabee Theatre in Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
“We were excited to do a farce and do a farce that is adapted by Steve Martin. It makes it much more contemporary feeling. That combination is special,” said DeAnna Toten Beard, Ph.D., associate chair and graduate program director in the department of theatre arts in the College of Arts & Sciences.
“The Underpants” is based on the 1911 German bourgeois farce “Die Hose” by Carl Sternheim. Martin’s adaption first appeared as an Off-Broadway production in April 2002.
“You can tell that (Martin) is smart and silly and well read. It all comes out in the play. We’ve tried to capture his style by adding in music that feels in keeping with the spirit of Steve Martin,” Toten Beard said.
Tickets are on sale for $18; $15 with a student I.D. All performances are sold out, but standing room is available. Attendees are encouraged to call the box office to check on availability of tickets.
The Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center is located at 60 Baylor Ave. in Waco.
