WACO, Texas (Feb. 3, 2015) – The vision behind the Marketing and Professional Selling (MAPS) Professional Development Program (PDP), offered in Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business, is to prepare students for a successful college-to-career transition.
This spring, the PDP has arranged a series of six events targeted at addressing topics from successful internships to effective personal branding. The series will run Wed., Feb. 4, to Wed., April 1 at varying times in the Cashion Academic Center, Room 510.
“As Baylor students begin to formulate their vision of life after Baylor, we must expose them to a variety of role models and careers. Events like the Professional Development Program allow Baylor students to listen and think about various careers and opportunities,” said Andrea Dixon, Ph.D., the Frank and Floy Smith Holloway Endowed Professor in Marketing in Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business.
Spring lecture series schedule:
• 5 p.m. on Feb. 4, Adam Bryant, “Corner Office” columnist at The New York Times, will speak at the PDP’s First Wednesday February.
• 5 p.m. on Feb. 11, eight to 10 student speakers will give a presentation on “Successful Internships.”
• 6 p.m. on Feb. 11 John Barry, chief marketing officer at Baylor, will present a branding workshop.
• 5 p.m. on March 4, David Engfer, manager at Pariveda Solutions, will speak at the PDP’s First Wednesday March.
• 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. on March 25, the PDP will host a Marketing and ProSales career fair featuring more than 50 companies.
• 5 p.m. on April 1, Kerry Olin, general manager at Microsoft, will speak at the PDP’s First Wednesday April.
“By bringing high-level speakers to campus, Baylor is able to provide the greater Waco community with access and insight that transports them beyond the borders of McLennan County,” Dixon said.
The PDP was originally developed for Marketing and Professional Selling (MAPS) students within the Hankamer School of Business and is a student-run program. First Wednesdays are events designed to provide opportunities for students to hear directly from business people and learn about various roles in the fields of marketing and sales.
The Cashion Academic Center is located at 1401 S. Fourth St. in Waco.
