Baylor Entrepreneurship Professor Receives Prestigious Fellowship

WACO, Texas (Feb. 2, 2015) – Kendall Artz, Ph.D., chair of the department of entrepreneurship and director of the Baylor Entrepreneurship Program in Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business, has been named a Justin G. Longenecker Fellow in Entrepreneurship by the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE).
The Justin G. Longenecker Fellowship is the highest recognition given by the USASBE to individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of small and medium businesses.
Since 1986, only 66 individuals have been selected as fellows. Artz is the second Baylor faculty member to be elected, following Ray Bagby, Ph.D., associate professor of entrepreneurship, who nominated Artz.
“I thought Dr. Artz met the specific criteria for the fellowship,” Bagby said. “He is an advocate for entrepreneurship and small business, performs service for our department and is recognized nationally for his excellence in teaching. He’s given us a lot of good leadership.”
Fellowship recipients are recognized for advancing entrepreneurial education through teaching, writing, research, training and public service.
“I was very surprised when I found out about the fellowship,” Artz said. “It’s very humbling, because many of the other fellows are quite impactful in the world of entrepreneurship, and being among their ranks is incredible.”
Artz hopes his fellowship will draw more attention to Baylor’s entrepreneurship program.
“Any visibility is good for the department,” Artz said. “We have a long history of being a leader in entrepreneurship education, and the recognition from people outside of our institution is certainly good publicity for our program.”
Artz received his M.B.A. from Arizona State University and his Ph.D. from Purdue University in West Lafayette. He has been teaching at Baylor since 1995.
Baylor University’s entrepreneurship program is listed among the top three undergraduate programs in the nation in rankings published by Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review.
