January 29, 1997

WACO, Texas - Dr. William H. Willimon, dean of chapel and professor of Christian Ministry at Duke University, will speak at Baylor University Wednesday, Feb. 5, as part of the Effective Preachers program.
Willimon will speak to Baylor students at 10 a.m. during Chapel-Forum in Waco Hall and at 7 p.m. at Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. The public is invited to the 7 p.m. service.
Willimon has pastored churches in Georgia and South Carolina. He has served at Duke Divinity School as a professor and director of ministry activities over the last 12 years. In 1992, Willimon was named the first distinguished alumnus of Yale Divinity School. Of the 37 books he has published, the most notable are "Sighing For Eden," "What's Right With the Church" and "Worship As Pastoral Care" which was selected as one of the 10 most useful books for pastors in 1979 by the Academy of Parish Clergy.
In February 1996, Baylor named 12 individuals as the most effective preachers in the English-speaking world, according to a worldwide survey.
Many of the 12 preachers plan to visit Baylor to deliver sermons during the 1996-97 academic year and to receive the newly created "Baylor Great Preachers" award. Included in the great preachers list are the Rev. Billy Graham and Dr. Charles Swindoll.
