Faculty Flute Recital Set for Feb. 4

Helen Ann Shanley, associate professor of flute at Baylor University, will present a faculty recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, in Roxy Grove Hall on campus. She will be assisted by Jane Abbott-Kirk, associate professor of piano; Kathryn Steely, instructor of viola; and a former member of the Baylor music faculty, harpist Delaine Fedson.
The recital will feature music from the early to the late 20th century.
The opening piece, David Froom's "To Dance to the Whistling Wind," was written in the year 1993.
Dutch composer Willem Pijper was a newcomer to the faculty of the Amsterdam Conservatory when he wrote his only "Flute Sonata" in 1925.
Surely the most popular and familiar work on the recital is Claude Debussy's evocative "Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp," which dates from 1916.
The program will conclude with a performance of the "Flute Sonata" of Russian composer Otar Taktakishvili.
