Baylor Hosts Guest Oboist and Pianist Jan. 23

Oboist J. Robert Moore will present a guest recital with pianist Barbara González-Palmer at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in Roxy Grove Hall at Baylor University.
Dr. Moore is professor of music at the University of Oregon at Eugene. He has appeared as recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician throughout the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Hungary and Cyprus.
Ms. González-Palmer serves as assistant professor of accompaniment and coaching at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts. She has performed in concert with such artists as Barry Tuckwell, Phyllis Bryn-Julson, and Richard Zeller, and her master class appearances include collaborations with Jean Pierre Rampal, Frederica von Stade, James Galway, Simon Estes, Dorothy DeLay and Martina Arroyo.
The recital at Baylor will open with three arrangements of music by Béla Bartók-"Bagpipers," "An Evening in the Village," and "Folksongs from the County of Csik." These will be followed by four of the "Ten Fantasy Pieces" by Robert Fuchs and then the "Sonata for Oboe and Piano" by operatic composer Gaetano Donizetti.
The second half of the program will feature Howard Hanson's "Pastorale for Oboe and Piano," Francis Poulenc's "Sonata for Oboe and Piano," and the "Trio Sonata No. 1 in B-flat Major for Two Oboes and Basso Continuo" by George Frideric Handel.
Doris DeLoach, professor of oboe at Baylor, will perform in the Handel sonata.
