WACO, Texas (Sept.30, 2014) – Baylor’s Academy for Leadership Development will host Suzii Paynter, executive coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in Miller Chapel. Paynter will be speaking on “Advocating for the Least of These.”
Jennifer Massey, Ph.D., assistant dean in the Academy for Leadership Development, said Paynter is a positive role model for Baylor students.
“In many respects, she embodies the kinds of things we try to inspire our students to become,” she said. “She has a deep commitment to leadership, she’s passionate about her calling and she lives it out successfully.”
Prior to joining the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Paynter worked at the Baptist General Convention of Texas for 12 years, where she created and managed large-scale programs and projects that focused on ministering alongside and advocating for the less fortunate.
Over the past decade, Paynter has gained a national reputation for her advocacy on important ethical issues such as religious liberty, hunger, poverty, environmental justice, human trafficking and immigration reform.
Her work has been highlighted on television programs such as Moyers in America and in print publications such as The Wall Street Journal and The New Yorker. In April 2014, Paynter was invited to the White House, where she discussed immigration reform with President Obama and a small group of faith leaders in the Oval Office.
Miller Chapel is located in Tidwell Bible Building, 600 Speight Ave. For more information, call the Academy for Leader Development at (254) 710-3100.

ABOUT THE ACADEMY FOR LEADER DEVELOPMENT
The Academy for Leader Development, established in 2004 by the Division of Student Life at Baylor University, creates a common place where diverse individuals studying, researching or practicing leadership in the context of a Christian worldview can benefit from collaboration. The purpose of fostering greater synergy among "leadership thinkers" is guided by an aspiration to provide a meaningful forum for talented Baylor students to develop their strengths in preparation for answering a call to sustained leadership in their chosen vocations, whether they are service in public life, private enterprise, social issues or the church.
