Underwood Named Senior Counsel at Baylor

WACO, Texas - William D. Underwood has been named Senior Counsel for Baylor University, effective Jan. 1.
In his new role, Underwood will serve as the chief legal officer of Baylor and he will direct the activities of all attorneys retained by the university as well as those of the General Counsel. Basil Thomson will continue as General Counsel to Baylor.
"Because of the growing complexity of today's society and the need for more legal analysis, it is good to know that Bill Underwood will be helping us meet those challenges," said Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr.
"I'm very pleased that he is willing to make this transition."
Underwood joined the Baylor School of Law faculty in 1990 after practicing civil trial law with the Dallas firm of Carrington, Coleman, Sloman and Blumenthal. He is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and the University of Illinois College of Law.
Underwood has provided extensive legal service to the university in recent years, including representing the university in proceedings before the NCAA. He will continue to hold the academic rank of professor of law and will retain his appointment as a tenured member of the faculty of the School of Law, where he will teach as permitted by his new responsibilities.
