WACO, Texas (March 31, 2014) – “He who controls the media controls the culture.”
So says Ted Baehr, Ph.D., publisher of Movieguide.org, and founder and chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission. Baylor’s Institute for Studies of Religion will host Baehr as he addresses the topic of media’s profound influence in his lecture “Triumphing Over Our Greatest Challenge” at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 2 in the Cox Lecture Hall of Baylor’s Armstrong Browning Library.
The son of two successful actors, Baehr has researched the topic of media and culture for more than 40 years. He has appeared as a featured guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Hannity and Colmes, CNN, ABS, Fox News, MSNBC and Entertainment Tonight, and has lectured throughout the United States as well as in Europe.
His website and publication Movieguide offers in-depth analyses of current movies from a biblical perspective via TV, radio, print, Internet and mobile applications. Not only are issues of violence, sex and profanity directly addressed, Movieguide digs deeply into the moral statements and worldviews of the movies, videos and television programs it reviews.
Most recently, Movieguide critics have reviewed the controversial film “Noah” and even conducted exclusive interviews with Director Darren Aronofsky and lead actor Russell Crowe.
Armstrong Browning Library is located at 710 Speight Ave. For more information call the Baylor ISR at 254-710-7555,or visit Baehr's website or Movieguide.org.

The institute’s mandate extends to all religions, everywhere, and throughout history, and embraces the study of religious effects on prosocial behavior, family life, population health, economic development and social conflict. While always striving for appropriate scientific objectivity, ISR scholars treat religion with the respect that sacred matters require and deserve. For more information, visit www.baylorisr.org
