Baptist World Alliance President to Speak at Baylor Nov. 13

Nilson Do Amaral Fanini, president of the Brazilian Baptist Convention and president of the Baptist World Alliance, will speak during Baylor University Chapel Forum at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Waco Hall.
Fanini is the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Niteroi, Brazil, and was elected the 17th President of the Baptist World Alliance at the 17th Baptist World Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in August of 1995. He will serve as president until 2000.
The Baptist World Alliance is a fellowship of 187 Baptist unions and conventions with more than 40 million baptized believers.
Fanini, a world evangelist and pastor, has preached in more than 82 countries. His focus as president of the Baptist World Alliance is world evangelism.
Fanini also founded a humanitarian organization called Reencontro in Brazil where he works to feed and clothe the poor, and give medical attention and operate vocational schools for those in need. The organization also distributes Bibles in Brazil.
Fanini is also well known for his radio and television programs in Brazil.
He holds a master of theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate of law from the Fluminensi Law School of the University of Rio de Janeiro. In addition, he is an honors graduate of the Brazilian War College, a unique privilege reserved for the nation's most outstanding leaders.
Fanini lives in Brazil with his wife, Helga, two sons and a daughter.
