Fall Development Council Meeting Set for Nov. 9

WACO, Texas - Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will give a presidential report during the fall meeting of the Baylor University Development Council at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in the Jones Theater of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
The Baylor Development Council is a group of several hundred alumni and friends of the university interested in the growth and development of Baylor. Members from throughout the United States meet once in the fall and spring to consider and advise all phases of Baylor's development work, according to Dr. Richard Scott, vice president for university development.
Presiding at the meeting will be Dallas businessman Leo Parchman Jr.
Sloan will discuss various operations and goals for Baylor, and Drayton McLane, chairman of McLane Group and owner of the Houston Astros, will report on the student life complex campaign.
Additionally, Athletic Director Tom Stanton will discuss the Baylor athletic department, Dr. Donald D. Schmeltekopf, provost and vice president for academic affairs, will recognize outstanding academic students and Dr. C. Gwin Morris, associate vice president for university development, will honor new members of the council.
One highlight of the meeting will be the presentation of a certificate of commendation to Baylor track coach Clyde Hart. Hart recently was named Coach of the Year by the 1996 U.S. Olympic Committee.
Entertainment during the meeting will be provided by the Baylor Men's Glee Club under the direction of John McLean Jr.
