Golden Wave Band Performs Anniversary Concert on Nov. 15

November 1, 1996

WACO, Texas- The Baylor University Golden Wave Band will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Ferrell Center. The concert marks the 75th anniversary of the Baylor School of Music and celebrates Baylor's inaugural season as a member of the Big XII conference.
"The concert has a three-fold purpose," Jerry Luckhardt, director of the Golden Wave Band said. "We are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the School of Music and inaugural season in the Big XII, but we also are producing a CD from this concert. There is just so much energy created from a live audience and the CD should reflect that."
The concert CD will be available in early 1997. The Golden Wave Band has not made a commercial recording since the 1970s. "I get calls every day from people wanting a recording of the band," Luckhardt said.
The band will perform classic Baylor fight songs as well as music from its 1996 football halftime shows. Selections will include songs by "Blood Sweat and Tears," the "Eagles," George Gershwin, and "Chicago." Additionally, the band will play music from the Olympics and blues. One blues number will be "Brazos River Blues," arranged by Jay Smith specifically for the Golden Wave Band. The musical extravaganza will spotlight the Golden Girls, Color Guard and Drum Line. Master of ceremonies for the concert will be Dan Potter, news director for radio station WBAP in Dallas.
Tickets for the concert are $5 for general admission and $10 for premium seating. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Baylor athletic ticketing office and at Ferrell Center on the night of the concert. All proceeds from the concert will be used for band scholarships.
