Steven Lubin to Present Lyceum Recital Nov. 14

Internationally renowned pianist and recording artist Steven Lubin will perform a guest recital at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Roxy Grove Hall at Baylor University.
Lubin is known particularly for his fortepiano recordings of music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. His complete set of the piano concertos of Beethoven (with the Academy of Ancient Music) was selected as Recording-of-the-Year by Gramophone magazine, Stereo Review magazine, and the New York Times. He also performs regularly with the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and his own chamber music group, the Mozartean Players Trio.
His recital will consist of music by Mozart, Beethoven, and Robert Schumann. He will perform the Schumann on a modern concert grand piano, but the Mozart and Beethoven pieces will be played on a replica of an 18th-century Viennese fortepiano.
The program will open with Mozart's Variations on the familiar French nursery song, "Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman," followed by Mozart's Piano Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 333. Then Lubin will play Beethoven's Piano Sonata in C Minor, Op. 13-the "Pathétique" Sonata.
Following intermission, Lubin will return to perform an early piano work of Schumann, his "Carnaval," Op. 9. This engaging composition, in 22 descriptive sections, is regarded as one of the masterpieces of Romantic keyboard music.

While on campus, Lubin also will present a lecture/demonstration at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, and a master class that day at 2 p.m. Both of these events will take place in Roxy Grove Hall and are free and open to the public.
