Homecoming Worship Service to Feature Music Minister

The Baylor University Alumni Association has planned a special Homecoming worship service for alumni, students, and their families beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Seventh and James Baptist Church.
President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will deliver the sermon.
Rev. Ronald E. Bowles, minister of music and media at First Baptist Church, El Paso, Texas, since 1983, is in charge of worship music. Bowles graduated from Baylor in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in music education. He graduated with a master's degree in communications from Baylor in 1977 and a master's degree in church music from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1981.
In addition to other ministerial positions in music, Bowles was associate minister of music for First Baptist Church in Waco from 1975-1981 and music director for the Baptist Student Union at Baylor from 1974 to 1976. Bowles has served for several years as worship leader for the annual Homecoming "Singspiration" program and is an active member of the Baylor Alumni Association. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Institute for Church Music and Worship of Baylor.
Bowles' wife, Suzanne Higgins Bowles, also will participate in the service as worship leader. She is a lecturer in voice at the University of Texas at El Paso.
Six other Baylor alumni will serve as worship leaders. They include Dr. Herbert Colvin, professor emeritus of music theory and Baylor carillonneur; Alan Bowden, assistant coordinator for marketing and communications of the Baylor Alumni Association; Lydia McCall Bratcher, a piano teacher at Lydia Bratcher Piano Studio in Waco; Meg Powell Cullar, news editor for the Baylor Line; and Pierre A. Hjartberg, president of DMI Travel in Metairie, La.
