Roger Olson Presents T.B. Maston Lecture

WACO, Texas (Nov. 5, 2013) - The George W. Truett Theological Seminary will welcome Roger Olson, Ph.D., to present a T.B. Maston Lecture entitled "Sin Boldly: Christian Ethics for a Broken World" at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the Paul W. Powell Chapel in Truett Seminary.
Olson, Foy Valentine Professor of Christian Theology and Ethics at Baylor, said he was honored by the invitation to speak and his lecture has a unique origin.
"I teach a course on Christian social ethics, and I used some questions that came up frequently during class as a springboard for my lecture, especially questions about Christian uses of force," he said.
The Maston Lecture, funded by the Maston Foundation, is given annually at different Texas Baptist institutions of higher education and always focuses on Christian ethics. The mission of the foundation is to promote the legacy of Dr. Thomas Buford Maston, Christian ethicist, author and lifelong advocate for the deeper understanding and application of the teachings of Jesus.
Olson said those who are interested in contemporary questions in Christian ethics would enjoy his lecture, and he hopes to give the audience something to think about.
"I hope to present perhaps a different perspective than they have heard before," he said.
Olson holds degrees from Rice University, North American Baptist Seminary and Open Bible College and is the co-chair of the Evangelical Theology Group of the American Academy of Religion. He is an expert in historical theology, and a frequent preacher, teacher and speaker for local churches and organizations.
