WACO, Texas (Nov. 1, 2013) - The Baylor Opera Theatre appreciates a good ghost story, even after Halloween has come and gone. The company will present performances of Benjamin Britten's ghostly tale "The Turn of the Screw" at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4 and 5 and 3 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Jones Theatre of Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave.
Regarded by many as one of Britten's finest works, "The Turn of the Screw" is the tale of a governess who wrestles with two ghosts she believes are corrupting the children in her care. Themes include good versus evil, natural versus supernatural and possession and exorcism.
The opera features students from the vocal division of the Baylor School of Music accompanied by a 13-piece chamber group from the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, all under the musical direction of Jeffrey Peterson, an assistant professor of voice at Baylor. Stage direction will be given by Octavio Cárdenas, assistant professor of ensembles and director of Baylor Opera.
Reserved tickets are $15 and are on sale at www.baylor.edu/theatre. For ticket information, call the Baylor theatre box office at (254) 710-1865.
