Bobby Jones Award Goes to Adrian Robinson

Adrian Robinson, a former strong safety for the Baylor University football team, will receive the 1996 Bobby Jones Award before the 1 p.m. kickoff of the Baylor vs. Iowa State football game on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Floyd Casey Stadium.
The award, which is presented before each Baylor Homecoming game, is given to the senior player from the previous year who provided the best leadership on and off the field in the week of preparation for the Homecoming game. The Baylor coaching staff selects the award recipient.
The award was named for the Baylor quarterback who led the Bears to a 13-7 defeat of the University of Tennessee in the 1957 Sugar Bowl. It was established by his widow, Mrs. Rosemary Jones, after Jones' death. He was killed in a 1965 automobile-train wreck while a member of the Tennessee coaching staff.
Robinson was chosen for his performance in the 1995 Homecoming game against Texas Christian University, which the Bears won 27-24. In that game, Robinson made two interceptions deep in TCU territory. One of those interceptions was in the endzone, which effectively prevented TCU from winning the game.
Robinson was selected to the all-Southwest Conference team in 1994. Robinson, a native of Edna, was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts last spring but a neck injury ended his football career. He graduated from Baylor with a bachelor's degree in sociology.
