New Director Named to Armstrong Browning Library

October 14, 1996

Dr. Mairi Rennie, a native of England who has extensive experience with several British universities, has recently been named director of the Baylor University Armstrong Browning Library.
Rennie came to Baylor after serving six years as principal of Kensington Park College in London, England. She also has served as an English professor at Highbury College in Portsmouth, England.
The responsibilities of her position include building the literature collection of the library as well as hosting conferences for Browning scholars. Besides teaching one course in the Department of English, Rennie said she will publish extensively. Increasing awareness of the collections of the library is one of Rennie's primary goals, she said.
"The collections are magnificent and we want to make them available to scholars all over the world."
Having come to Baylor in 1994 during a fellowship, Rennie knew of the Armstrong Browning collection at Baylor which motivated her to come when an opportunity arose , she said.
"I cannot think of an English university with such facilities as Baylor," she said. "There are some grand universities in England, but they are much older."
A reception will held for Rennie from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Cox Reception Hall of the Armstrong Browning Library.
