Class Ring Ceremony Set for Oct. 17

October 10, 1996

Baylor University will award seniors their class rings during the third annual Official Class Ring Presentation at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
All seniors with at least 90 semester hours are eligible to receive the official Baylor ring, which Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will give to the students.
Dr. Ray Burchette, executive director of the Baylor Alumni Association, which is sponsoring the event, will welcome the students. Retired professor of history and Master Teacher Robert Reid will give a presentation explaining the symbols on the ring.
In 1995, the university adopted a single official class ring. The ring has helped the university develop another strong tradition, said Marc Rylander, coordinator for development and marketing for the Alumni Association.
"When a tradition begins it sometimes start slow, but students are purchasing numerous rings each day," he said. "Were selling rings as fast as Balfour can put them out."
