Baylor to Sponsor Missions Emphasis Week

October 7, 1996

The Baylor University Baptist Student Ministries (BSM) will sponsor Missions Emphasis Week Oct. 13-16 on the Baylor campus.
The week highlights the field of missions and gives Baylor students a chance to consider missionary opportunities. Missionaries from around the globe as well as representatives from missionary agencies will come to Baylor to speak in classes, meet with students and hold a missions fair in which students may ask questions.
Other activities of the week include missionaries speaking in local churches and conducting student seminars on missions. At noon Wednesday, Oct. 16, a special faculty luncheon honoring missionaries will be held in the Barfield Drawing Room. Sam Cannata, physician in the Baylor Health Center and a retired missionary, will be the guest speaker. Cannata served as a Southern Baptist Missionary for more than 25 years.
The missions week activities also offer an opportunity for students to clear up any misconceptions they might have about missionaries or the life of a missionary, said Ann Farley, missions intern in the Baylor BSM.
"Missions Emphasis Week is an opportunity for Baylor to see missionaries up close and personal," Farley said. "Students, faculty and staff can see who they really are, what they really do and why they really do it."
