Baylor to Host Medieval Associations Oct. 3-6

October 2, 1996

The Baylor University Department of English will host a joint conference of the Texas and Southeastern Medieval Associations Oct. 3-6 at the Waco Convention Center.
Approximately 150 scholars in the areas of English, Spanish and Italian literature and medieval history will come together to present papers on the time period of 1100 to 1500. The theme of the conference is "The Apocalypse." Papers will focus on the end of the world during the medieval period and also during the Branch Davidian standoff of 1993.
The Texas and Southeastern Medieval Associations are comprised of scholars around the southeastern region of the country who come together to gain knowledge from each other on the medieval period. Dr. Tom Hanks, professor of English, said Baylor students will be some of the greatest benefactors of the conference.
"We have at least 30-50 students who will be attending," Hanks said. "They will get to see how leading scholars carry out their profession."
