"Girl Rising" features voice performances by Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Salma Hayek, Cate Blanchett, Alicia Keys, Liam Neeson, Kerry Washington and more.
At 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, Baylor University's School of Education will present a screening of the film in Kayser Auditorium in the Hankamer School of Business, 1428 S. Fifth St. The film also will be shown at 9 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in Draper 345.
"Our hope in bringing "Girl Rising" to campus is to raise awareness about the importance of educating women both locally and abroad," said Brooke Blevins, Ph.D., assistant professor in the department of curriculum and instruction in Baylor University's School of Education.
"Educating women is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty. This film provides a beautiful portrayal of the power of education and a hopeful and tangible call to action."
The film showcases the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to change the world.
"If to see it is to know it, this film delivers hope; reasonable, measurable, tangible hope that the world can be healed and helped to a better future," said Meryl Streep, three-time Academy Award winner.
