Baylor Welcomes Spring 2013 Chapel Speakers

WACO, Texas (Jan. 18, 2013) - Each Monday and Wednesday during the semester, students from all areas of study come together for Chapel, an integral part of Baylor students' education since the university was founded in 1845. This semester will bring an array of special speakers and musicians to Chapel. A list of some of these guests is as follows:
Jan. 28, 2013: Vincent Asamoah
After graduating from Baylor's Truett Seminary, Vincent Asamoah became a BU Missions Global Partner. Upon returning to his home in Kumasi, Ghana, he created Shoot4Life, a ministry that uses passion for sports as a tool to raise Godly leaders in Africa. Vincent lives in Ghana with his wife, Doreen, and their children, Amma, Afia and Kwame.
Feb. 6, 2013: Jenny & Tyler
Jenny & Tyler is a musical duo with a unique acoustic folk-pop style inspired by Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, Duke Ellington, Alison Krauss, Dave Brubeck and others. The married couple lives in Nashville but will be touring across 13 states this spring. More information on their music can be found at www.jennyandtyler.com.
Feb. 11, 2013: Greg Garrett
As a professor of English in the College of Arts & Sciences at Baylor, Greg Garrett, Ph.D., believes his students should not only learn how to write, but they should also learn to ask hard questions and seek answers. Since coming to Baylor in 1989, he has been named Outstanding Professor and Outstanding Faculty Member. In addition to his teaching, Garrett is a successful author. His first novel Free Bird was published in 2002 and nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award.
Feb. 18, 2013: Timbre
With her folk-rock style, Timbre has traveled the world introducing audiences to a fresh genre of harp music. She has performed with Jack White, Ricky Skaggs, Tom Jones, mewithoutYou, the Chariot and other well-known musicians and bands. However, Timbre's original music, combining her classically trained voice and harp skills with various other instruments, is what sets her apart from others. She has recorded two albums and is currently on tour.
Feb. 25, 2013: Seth Worley
Baylor alumnus Seth Worley is a film director and writer. He won a Dove Award for a collaborative project with Karla Worley, Steven V. Tayloy, Peter Kipley and Michael W. Smith. His short film Plot Device received significant attention in Hollywood and was the topic of several articles in The Hollywood Reporter.
March 4, 2013: Andrea Palpant Dilley
As the daughter of Quaker missionaries, Andrea Palpant Dilley was raised in Kenya but eventually made her way to Austin, where she now lives and works as a producer, writer and author. Her work has appeared on American Public Television, CNN, The Huffington Post and Christianity Today.
March 18, 2013: Bob Goff
Bob Goff is the founder of Restore International, a nonprofit organization advocating for human rights in Uganda and India. The organization has assisted in bringing to trial more than 200 cases of abuse in Uganda and has helped girls escape from human trafficking in India. Additionally, Goff is author of the New York Times Best-Seller Love Does, a leading attorney at Goff & DeWalt, LLP in Washington state, and serves as the Hon. Consul for the Republic of Uganda to the United States. He also is an adjunct professor at Pepperdine Law School and Point Loma Nazarene University.
April 3, 2013: Leroy Barber
Leroy Barber has spent more than 20 years working to eradicate poverty and restoring local neighborhoods. He is the founder of Restoration Ministries in Philadelphia and Atlanta Youth Academies. Since 2006, he has been president of Mission Year, a program that brings Christian young people to live in urban neighborhoods where they volunteer, worship and love their neighbors. He is married and has five children.
April 8, 2013: Paul Hurckman
Paul Hurckman is the executive director of Venture Expeditions, a nonprofit organization that creates adventure-driven campaigns to support charity, such as biking trips across the United States to raise money for churches in Latin America. He is passionate about advocating against injustice and spurring communities to help marginalized individuals.
April 15, 2013: Joe White
Joe White is the president of Kanakuk Kamps, the largest family of Christian sports camps in the United States. He and his wife, Debbie Jo, have seen much growth since they began working with the camp in 1976. After noting a need for ministry to inner-city children, he founded a camp dedicated to urban youth called Kids Across America in 1991. He has written 19 books and speaks across the country for Men at the Cross, After Dark, Pure Excitement and Focus on the Family radio.
April 22, 2013: Jim Wallis
Jim Wallis is president of Sojourners and editor-in-chief of Sojourners magazine, a Christian publication with more than 250,000 readers. He is a best-selling author, theologian, speaker, and commentator on ethics. His columns appear in major newspapers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and The Boston Globe. He also makes frequent appearances as a commentator on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Meet the Press, Hardball, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The O'Reilly Factor and National Public Radio.
