WACO, Texas (Oct. 31, 2012) - Baylor University will honor Oracle President and 1979 Baylor University alumnus Mark Hurd with the 2012-2013 Baylor Meritorious Achievement Award - the Baylor Legacy Award - which will be presented during the University's 103rd anniversary Homecoming celebration Nov. 1-3 on campus.

The Baylor Legacy Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate extraordinary service and philanthropy to Baylor or to causes that fit its mission as a Christian university. Hurd will be honored at a special dinner on Thursday, Nov. 1, and at halftime of the Baylor vs. Kansas football game on Saturday, Nov. 3. He also will be among the dignitaries riding in the Baylor Homecoming Parade, the oldest and largest collegiate homecoming parade in the country.

"I am honored to receive the Baylor University Legacy Award," Hurd said. "Baylor taught me a lot of important lessons: How to be an effective leader; the importance of building teams aligned to a common goal and the value of being part of a community."

Hurd, who attended Baylor on a tennis scholarship, earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1979. He continues to show his passion for tennis and his alma mater by supporting Baylor's national championship tennis program. Hurd has made philanthropic donations to upgrade and renovate facilities in the Hurd Tennis Building, which is part of the Hurd Tennis Center. Hurd also supports the Baylor Bear Foundation and the Men's Tennis Excellence Fund. In addition to the Legacy Award, Hurd received the Baylor Business Legend award from the Houston Baylor Business Network in 2006.

In his more than 30 years of technology industry leadership, Hurd has been recognized by Business 2.0 magazine as one of the 50 Who Matter Now and by Barron's Best CEOs lists.

As president of Oracle, Hurd oversees the world's largest enterprise-software company with more than 390,000 customers in 145 countries, more than 115,000 employees and annual revenues of $37.1 billion. Hurd's strengths as a strategist and his focus on customer success have led to growth at Oracle and to ongoing innovations in products for industries including telecommunications, financial services and health sciences. Hurd also helps drive Oracle's acquisition and integration strategy.

"The Baylor Meritorious Awards program acknowledges the distinctive mission of Baylor University and recognizes those who achieve success in a manner consistent with that mission, which is to serve the Church and world in which we live. We are delighted to honor Mark Hurd with the 2012-2013 Baylor Legacy Award for his enduring and active support for Baylor," said Tommye Lou Davis, vice president for constituent engagement at Baylor.
