Baylor to Present First Musical of the 1996-97 Season

Baylor University's Department of Theater Arts will open its 1996-97 season with an original book coupled with familiar music titled "Tango, Bagels, and Blues" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the Jones Theater of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
Written, directed and choreographed by Jerry MacLauchlin, part-time lecturer in Baylor's theater department, "Tango, Bagels, and Blues" will run through Sept. 7 with shows at 7:30 p.m. each night and a matinee at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 7.
The 31-member cast is a mixture of theater and music students from Baylor and McLennan Community College (MCC).
"This is the first co-production of Baylor and MCC students," said Leta Horan, associate professor of piano at Baylor and musical director of the play. "The musical was first produced at MCC this summer, and we are now bringing the same cast to Baylor. It is a great representation of what is going on in our academic community."
"Tango, Bagels, and Blues" is the story of three brothers from Texas who go to New York City to get the show they have written produced. Before they can get it produced, the brothers must overcome the "suggestions" of a shady pawn shop owner about the plot, casting, writing and directing of the play.
