International Student Picnic to Be Held Aug. 31

August 22, 1996

The Baylor University Baptist Student Ministry (BSM), in cooperation with the Methodist Student Center, will host an international student picnic at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Baylor intramural field located at the corner of Speight and South Third Streets.
At the picnic, food and fellowship will be provided for all international students attending Baylor, according to Libby McAnear, Missionary-in-Residence at Baylor and co-coordinator of the BSM International Student Ministry.
The BSM International Student Ministry assists international students with adjusting to life at Baylor. The ministry coordinates various activities, holiday celebrations, and worship services for international students. McAnear said international students have special needs when they come to Baylor.
"They can come in with all kinds of problems such as not being able to understand their professors or lacking confidence," she said. "They need someone to help them."
Approximately 100 international new students were admitted to Baylor this fall. The international student population is more than 300 students from more than 60 countries, according to Dr. June Rose Garrott, international student adviser at Baylor.
In case of rain, the picnic will be moved to the Baptist Student Center.
