WACO, Texas (Sept. 19, 2012) - The School of Music at Baylor University will host Latin Grammy award-winning pianist Pablo Ziegler and the Pablo Ziegler Trio as the first performance in this year's Distinguished Artist Series. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Roxy Grove Hall in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave.
The trio blends traditional tango rhythms with jazz improvisations to create a new voice in the tango lexicon. It is extensively touring throughout the United States and abroad, playing with special guests like Claudia Acuña. Members of the trio recently performed Ettore Stratta's Symphonic Tango Project with the Presidential Orchestra of Turkey.
"The Distinguished Artist Series is the School of Music's premier set of guest artist events," said Richard Veit, the concert and promotion manager for the School of Music at Baylor University. "This series brings to campus some of the world's greatest musicians, providing Baylor students and the surrounding community with the convenience of enjoying brilliant performances without having to travel to Dallas, Austin or Houston."
Veit said that he anticipates the concert will attract many students and members from the community. "There is something of a worldwide tango renaissance at the present time, and Pablo Ziegler is in the forefront of this movement. He and the other two members of his Pablo Ziegler Trio have dazzling credentials in this genre, having performed for over a decade with the late Argentinian master of tango, Ástor Piazzolla. This is a rare opportunity to see and hear these great artists in person."
Tickets for the Pablo Ziegler Trio's concert are $15 for general admission and $10 for senior citizens and Baylor students. Tickets can be purchased at the School of Music box office in the Glennis McCrary Music Building or online at www.baylor.edu/music.
