August 12, 1996

WACO, Texas - Baylor University has named Larry Smith, manager at the Valley Mills Drive Banking Center of Guaranty Federal Bank, as a development officer for Central Texas, helping raise funds for the university.
A 1973 Baylor graduate, Smith will join Baylor's development office on Monday, Aug. 19, after working with Guaranty Bank (formerly First Federal Savings) for 27 years.
"It was a difficult decision to leave Guaranty but I feel like I am moving from one family to another," Smith said. "It is an exciting time to come to Baylor. I think Baylor and Waco have a great partnership which I am looking forward to exploring."
Smith is a 1995 graduate of Leadership Waco and the past president of the Baylor/Waco Foundation.
"Larry is a first-class individual who has a great business background and he knows the Central Texas area well," said Dr. Richard C. Scott, vice president for university development. "He is just the kind of person we are looking for as a development officer, and we know he will represent Baylor well."
Smith is a current director of Waco's Better Business Bureau and an active member of the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce and Waco Rotary Club. He also is a deacon at First Baptist Church in Woodway.
Smith is married to Kim Barclay Smith, a 1975 Baylor graduate, and they have three sons.
