Baylor to Receive 3m Vision Grant July 3

WACO, Texas - The 3M Foundation recently announced that Baylor University would be a 1996 recipient of a $45,910 grant for the "Learning Through Community Service" program at Baylor which engages students in research projects for non-profit community organizations that serve the disadvantaged.
Russell B. Bridges, government and community affairs manager; Tanya A. Griffin, staffing administrator in Human Resources, Administration and Operations; and William J. McLellan, staff vice president corporate services, all from 3M Center in Austin, will attend a ceremony at noon Wednesday, July 3, in the Loessin Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center during which Bridges will present Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. with the Vision Grant.
Baylor is one of five private colleges to receive a 3M Vision Grant which are designed to support innovation in private liberal arts colleges. The Vision program encourages faculty and students to work together to develop new and innovative programs that stretch the mind and challenge the imagination by discovering new way of teaching and learning. Established in 1988, 44 private college programs have received the award.
The 3M Foundation is funded annually by 3M. Since its founding 42 years ago, the 3M Contributions Program has provided more than $490 million in cash, product and service contributions to educational and community organizations.
Baylor's grant was prepared by Dr. Homer Garcia, professor of sociology, with the help of Gary Carter, associate budget director and director of sponsored programs, and Tom Purdy, director of corporate development for university development.
