Baylor to Host Summer Piano Institute June 2-8

The Baylor University School of Music will present its annual Summer Piano Institute from June 2-8. Approximately 40 talented young pianists-ranging from 8th grade through 12th grade-will participate in the week-long event, and students will visit the Baylor campus from throughout Texas and Oklahoma.
In addition to the structured practice sessions, there will be lessons and master classes, plus a series of six public recitals.
The opening recital, on Sunday, June 2, will feature four members of the Baylor music faculty. Bruce Berg, associate professor of violin, and Jane Abbott-Kirk, associate professor of piano, will play one of Franz Schubert's three Violin Sonatas; Michael Ard, professor of keyboard studies, will perform music of Franz Liszt and Richard Faith; and Brian Marks, lecturer in piano, will play music of Liszt and Robert Schumann.
On Monday, June 3, a faculty recital will present Christina Edelen, Instructor in Harpsichord, in music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Daniel Pinkham. Also on the program will be Joyce Jones, the Joyce O. Bowden Professor of Music and Organist-in-Residence, as well as duo pianists Mary Rich (of Lon Morris College) and Marilyn Rodman, who will play some 4-hand piano music of Sergei Rachmaninoff and Witold Lutoslawski.
Baylor keyboard students, in both piano and organ, will perform recitals on Tuesday, June 4, and Thursday, June 6.
On Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8, students of the Summer Piano Institute will be in the spotlight for their closing recitals.
