Baylor Student Awarded by Dallas Fashion Group

April 29, 1996

Sabrina Goel, a Baylor University senior from Sugarland and a fashion merchandising major, was recently awarded first place in the 1996 Retail Competition sponsored by the Dallas Fashion Group. Goel's comprehensive project, titled "A Head Above," targeted young men who are not of average size.
"Many of my friends are athletes who have trouble finding clothes that fit," Goel said. "I got the idea about three years ago when I worked in department stores. I checked out the market to find that there was a need to provide clothes for high school and college age who are not of average size, such as athletes."
Goel's project covered all aspects of the business including type of business, store location and design, budgeting, advertising, and policies and procedures. "It was an extremely innovative project that was executed in an accurate manner with very unique ideas," said Dr. Judith Lusk, Baylor professor of family and consumer sciences.
Thirty-five projects were submitted to the competition pertaining to fashion design and merchandising. With her first place award, Goel received a three-month study trip to the American College in London. Goel plans to graduate from Baylor this summer and take the three-month study trip to London in the summer of 1997.
In the future, Goel hopes to receive an internship with the merchandising department of the Houston Rockets.
